What exactly is Infrared (IR) and what is it used for. The scientific meaning and point of view: Electromagnetic radiation of a wavelength longer than that of the visible light spectrum but shorter than that of microwaves. The name comes from the Latin; infra, which means below. Red waves being the color of visible light with the longest waveforms. IR light has an even longer wavelength. The longer the wavelength the lower the frequency, hence, below red.
Most of us have at least heard of infrared which has many uses; the primary use allows us to see in the dark. Infrared is a great tool used by the military for target acquisition, surveillance night vision, homing and tracing. Non military uses include thermal efficiency for example, home insulation. Remote temperature sensing, short wave wireless communications, weather forecasting etc. The list goes on. To say the least it is an awesome technology.
One of the most intriguing uses of IR is in the realm of the spirit world. It is widely used by ghost hunters, occultist, psychic investigators, mediums, so on and so forth. The ability to see in the dark along with its thermal sensitivities is perhaps its greatest asset in dealing with the spirit realm. Not that ghost, specters and other unexplained phenomenon don’t exist during the day, it’s just that with all the other activity of daily life interfering it’s much harder to focus and witness these occurrences.
Many investigators also believe that the energy given off by forces outside the known living world emits frequencies and wavelengths within the IR range. Along with IR’s thermal sensitivity it is widely believed that images and things from beyond can actually be witnessed or even recorded for further study.
Wherever your interest in Infrared Technology may lie, one must admit it is a powerful tool. From my point of view the unexplained world that might be exposed by IR is something I cannot ignore and an area that I will and must continue to research. |
