Wikipedia defines matrixing as: an innate tendency to recognize patterns in random perceptions
Dictionary.com defines matrixing as: a psychological phenomenon involving a vague and random stimulus (often an image or sound) being perceived as significant.
Basically, matrixing is the brains way of familiarizing a picture or sound when nothing is there. Take for instance, clouds. If you go outside on a nice day and watch the clouds, you will see all sorts of shapes, objects and faces. Now we all know that those things really aren't there, it's just your brains way of processing them. The most common form of matrixing is seeing faces that are not there. The human mind is programmed to recognize faces, so you can look at a picture and think you see a face, but the reality is that there's just a cluster of objects. In the paranormal field, one has to be careful when analyzing evidence and be certain a proposed apparition is not a result of matrixing. That being said, NEPA Paranormal is very cautious when presenting evidence of faces. We have actually gone back to locations the next day to disprove images that appear to be faces, and at times have discovered that a collection of rocks, branches, or brush as well as other things were the culprit.
